Founded in 2015, BenchWorx is a mobile education program whose mission is to introduce students of all ages to the art of woodworking. We teach children to use tools safely, effectively and eventually independent of adult assistance. Each class begins with the introduction of a new tool, followed by safety demonstrations. Children create toys and useful projects using hand tools. They do not need any prior experience and all of the tools/materials required to make the projects are provided by BenchWorx.
Mobile Education
BenchWorx uses experienced, trained artists and woodworkers to introduce the art of woodworking to school age children of all sizes who easily fit into the height adjusted workbenches on the mobile trailer classroom. Site requirements are a parking area for the trailer and electricity at the program site.
Real Tools, Real Skills
Children will accumulate a working knowledge of techniques like measuring, sanding, sawing, shaping, drilling, setting screws, using clamps, hammering and incising. They learn about different types of wood and design projects using the wood and their imagination.
Ages K - 8 Grade
Children create toys and useful projects using hand tools. They do not need any prior experience and all of the tools/materials required to make the projects are provided by BenchWorx. Creative problem solving is instrumental in and is utilized throughout the process of designing and building their wood projects.
